Here are a few things I've discovered during Noise Pop this week:
- Feist's live show has reached mind-blowing proportions. There's a quality about her performances that reminds me of Jeff Buckley's, in that she is so present, in the moment, constantly creating. Except that she does it with the sexiest minimalism you'll ever experience.
- I love Laura Veirs on CD, but live? Not so much.
- Julie Schuchard is my new favorite photographer.
- It's always good to see Britt Daniel, Craig Wedren, David Dondero and no, I don't mind the sweaty post-show hug.
- The Dirty Projectors are (is?) kind of like the male equivalent of CocoRosie.
- Sam from The Dead Science is a good sport.
- I can no longer leave my house without earplugs.
Craig Wedren played last night at The Knockout which is in my neighborhood. Walking to a show and walking back, without having to worry about parking in San Francisco, was nothing short of euphoric. I should beg the Knockout to let me book shows there so I can bring all my favorite bands to a venue 5 blocks from my house.
Craig was in fine form as usual, with Kevin March on drums and Sam and Jherek from The Dead Science on guitar and bass. I can't remember the last time I saw him play a full set, so it was a real treat. He played songs off his new solo record as well as a few Shudder To Think songs (joy!!) I posted my crappy :30 video of "Hit Liquor" below. He made the dramatic pause between "wanna....watch?" so long, so satisfying. Come on Nathan, we're calling for a Shudder To Think reunion!!!
Tonight, The LIfe and Times will rock us all.
